About the Program

Advances in science have enabled the development of prosthetic and orthotic devices that replace or support body parts, compensate for missing limbs, and enhance the function of impaired ones. This program is the first Bachelor’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics in Egypt and the Middle East and Africa after Jordan. The field began after World War II, when wood was initially used to manufacture prosthetics, before evolving to plastic and later to advanced designs using modern materials such as aluminum and titanium alloys, plastic, and rubber, with computers now playing a key role in manufacturing. Prosthetics and orthotics aim to rehabilitate individuals who have lost limbs due to accidents or disease by improving their quality of life, helping them adapt, and enabling them to become active members of society. Orthotic devices specifically control or support movement, assist in fracture recovery, reduce pain, and help weakened muscles perform daily activities.
